It’s Friday the 13th, which means today is definitely going to be special in some way. Not necessarily sure which side of the coin the day is going to fall on, but I’m hopeful that it’s on the good side because we can use it. Historically, Friday the 13th always has this bad connotation but I heard recently that the 13th should be looked at as a special, uplifting spiritual day if you allow it to be, especially based off the superstition. I interpret it as you’re getting ready to rise up into a new beginning for yourself if you allow that to happen. I figured we could see what animal totem is in alignment with today’s energy and what today could possibly bring to us or what advices we need to hear as we are pushing through this Friday. We’re almost to the weekend and I know I need this weekend. I’m supposed to be spending some time with friends and I’m looking forward to seeing my people across various hangouts.

Today, we have the Nightingale as our animal totem. This represents beauty, grace and the impermanence of life. Key terms that go along with the Nightingale are fearless voice, speech, communication, or song. Today feels like a powerful day to say what you need to say. Allow yourself to dip into your ‘left column’ and say the things that are going on behind those eyes in your brain. A lot of the times, we say things that mean other things and today it seems like we are being pushed to listen to ourselves and stand up in our total truth as we’re going throughout the day or the next few days. What do you learn from being able to share the fullness of your truth with someone and is it encouraging you to take this opportunity to be even more authentic in your communications with others? I take this also as a sign to get out there and maybe croon a tune as you’re enjoying your day. Something I like to do when I’m over here pretending I’m a trap star is learning the lyrics to songs that rappers be rapping that I don’t catch all the time within my first listen. Maybe you can take one of your most loved karaoke songs on the road today and learn some lyrics, or just sing something that really speaks to your heart today. Music is going to be healing and it is new music Friday so maybe you’ll come across a song that represents where you are in life and you can share it with someone around you to let them into your reality from a different vantage point.

Funnily enough, I’m listening to a playlist of new music that Spotify does for me every Friday and I’m sitting here writing you all. Music is going to be healing today in various forms, so lean into listening to something that’ll put you in the zone to get some work done or even write up an e-mail that you may have been procrastinating on in some way.

When the Nightingale is in balance, they sing and speak freely with kindness. When the Nightingale is out of balance, they are shy and have a lump in the throat. What brings them into balance? MUSIC.

Maybe you could turn a sound on in the background while you’re having conversations with friends. The music will make you move and groove and loosen yourself up just a bit, which it sounds like you could use.

I know you’re probably thinking, “Well, what are YOU listening to?”

Music to me is so personal, lol. I think mainly because I’m the type of person who takes forever to get caught up on music that everyone else is listening to so I’m always very reluctant to share, but the biggest new thing I’ve started listening to is the newest version of In Search of Sunrise 20 that came out this week. If you’re into this type of music, give it a listen - it has been real cute to get into. Aside from that, maybe one day I’ll get back into sharing playlists of songs I’m getting into at the moment. It is one way that I like to be creative and share where I’m checking in from in a different way as well.

As you’re going throughout your Friday, how are you noticing that you’re feeling even more honest and authentic as yourself as you share your thoughts through your work and through your words? How does it feel for you to be operating from this capacity and does it encourage you to say what’s on your mind even more staunchly? Who in your life could benefit from you saying what you need to say today? Is it you?

This is reading the fuck out of me and lets me know that today is not the day to mince your words. It’s important to let people know where you’re checking in from and not that proverbial, “I’m fine” that we all like to say when people ask us how we’re doing. Nah, keep it a buck and tell the truth my G. Hell, you can even serenade someone with a song to let them know how you’re truly feeling if you’re up for it, haha. Just a thought.
